![]() Of all polygamous cults, religions, and sects, by far the most well-known (and not for good reasons) is the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS). These really are some of the most fascinating, disturbing, and yet somehow extremely captivating documentaries out there. No matter which polygamous documentary you choose, I guarantee you’ll be glued to the screen. While documentaries about polygamous abuses tend to dominate this group of films, there are also some newly emerging ones that showcase a new face of polygamy: the modern-day polygamists that aim to avoid the clear horrors that exist in the most notorious polygamous cults. Not to mention the uphill battle that those who escape are forced to face. Often, they showcase just how devastating polygamy can be – underage marriages, child abuse and molestation, and severe oppression. ![]() Please, please - take a bit of time out of your life to read the news articles, watch the documentary, and find a way to help - by boosting the signal, putting pressure on government officials, making a financial contribution to the cause, whatever resonates with you.Documentaries about polygamy are some of the most fascinating documentaries available. Just last week, 2 more children of Warren Jeffs' came out to say they had been sexually molested (see CNN link below).Īs documented in this film and many other stories about the FLDS, this cult is only growing in power and depravity, and many are fearful of a violent end coming. While Warren Jeffs is serving a life sentence plus 20 years for the aggravated sexual assault of children, he still dictates total obedience of his followers from his prison cell, and women and children are still being hurt every day. Sadly, nothing could be further from the truth. And so, that is what I'm doing - I'm using every social platform I have to raise awareness and assistance for these abused women and children.īefore seeing this film, I had a vague recollection of the Warren Jeffs story, and labored under the belief that once Warren Jeffs - who spent time on the FBI Top 10 Most Wanted List, his photo next to that of Osama bin Laden - went to jail, that this cult had fizzled out and women and children were no longer threatened by this megalomaniac's edicts. Tell it everywhere you can, to everyone you can, in an effort to raise awareness and put pressure on government officials to end the atrocities being committed right here in 21st century America, across several small towns in Colorado, Oklahoma, Arizona, South Dakota, Texas and Utah. ![]() When asked what we, the public, could do to help, Jon's response was simple: tell the story. ![]() It's truly hard to watch, but worth the discomfort to get educated about the FLDS. I'm not sure I've ever been as affected by a documentary as I was by theirs. To say that the documentary plays like a horror film would be a gross understatement. Jon and Sam (working with Ron Howard and Brian Grazer) have produced a new documentary about the FLDS, based on Sam's book, Prophet's Prey. These three men, along with many others, have doggedly pursued justice for thousands in the cases against various FLDS leaders (who are all white men, incidentally.). Yesterday I had the privilege of meeting three incredibly inspirational people - Jon Krakauer (author of Into the Wild, Into Thin Air, Under the Banner of Heaven), Sam Brower (private investigator and author of Prophet's Prey) and one of the original six "Lost Boys," whose courage in filing a lawsuit against Warren Jeffs, leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, opened the floodgates of justice for many other women and children being abused inside the FLDS church (and helped lead to the eventual arrest of Warren Jeffs).
